John’s most recent position was Chief Technology Officer (R&D, Services, IT, Online B2B environment) with Avelo. In this role he managed and delivered the company’s first unified operational plan and products roadmap, introduced a flexible outsourcing resource model and managed an online hosted commercial B2B financial trading environment. He also reshaped the company’s delivery methodology to the Agile/Scrum approach, proving with B2C hosted and multi-tenancy SAAS based product delivery.


Prior to his role with Avelo, John worked as Executive Vice President (R&D, Services, Support, P&L) with OmniBus Systems. During this time he worked with other members of the Anterian Group to restructure the product and services divisions to turn years of significant loss (75%) into the company’s first ever profit (£1 million).


John was accountable for the company P&L with a record £16.5 million revenue, delivered through a professional services program and project management of worldwide, multi-million pound software deployments. His business change and transition management, resulted in 40% efficiency improvement in the gross margin (record 71%) through significantly improved software quality, on-time project delivery, road maps, technical operational plans, alignment of technology departments to sales/customers and prioritization of software production through formal bid and business approval process.


He substantially increased support revenue (130%) and customer satisfaction through the establishment of a new global support process, technical account management, KPIs and customer accountability reviews. This included the introduction of three regional support offices (UK, US & Asia), instigating “follow the sun” support. His continuous year-on-year cost control delivered record results, with 30% reduction in staffing.

Previous Roles


From 1996 - 2004 John held the position of Director UK/Ireland Development Centers with Computer Associates, where he was commercially entrusted with developing and delivering to market an integrated product suite that delivered $200 million annual revenue. He led the on-time completion of a substantial, multi-national (US, Europe, India) software project, merging 4 enterprise products into one unified solution, standardizing the product, processes and structures.


He delivered CA’s middleware platform, providing consistent business intelligence data management/model across multiple data sources (ERP, Relational Databases, External Sources, etc.), delivering OODMS architecture including multi-protocol data transfer, messaging publish/subscribe, authentication, encryption, remote method invocation and web services layer.


During his time with CA, John successfully managed major change management programs including ISO 9001, business continuity and the introduction of unified sales requirements through to software release methodology. He was also responsible for leading technical due diligence and the UK-based merger of 3 successful company acquisitions.


John’s earlier career includes time with British Aerospace, GEC EASAMs Ltd and Digital Equipment Company.
